W.E. Ketcham scrapbooks, 1900-1916

This collection consists of two scrapbooks created by Walter Elwood Ketcham. They include photographs of several places on the Penn State campus, such as Old Main, the Armory (inside and outside), the wood working, foundry and carpenter shops, the Engineering Building, science lecture rooms and labs, the Ladies' Cottage, the Agricultural Building, and the Zoology Museum. There are also photographs of Centre Furnace, the buildings of the town (State College, Pennsylvania) from campus, and the experimental trolley line. In addition to these views of the area, Ketcham includes several photographs of student activities. There are photographs from track meets at Old Beaver Field, gymnastics, and women competing in a track meet in 1916. Other activities include military drills, the cadet band, and class scraps (tie-up, push ball, and tug-of-war).

Walter Elwood Ketcham was born September 29, 1879 in Nescopeck, Pennsylvania. He entered Pennsylvania State College, in 1900, from East Stroudsburg Normal School (now East Stroudsburg University) and graduated in 1904 with a degree in electrical engineering. During his college years, "Ketch" used his photographic skills to produce an album of campus views, which he sold to raise money for college expenses.
